“The course wasn’t too bad; it didn’t have too many hills. You have to stay focused because it does have a lot of turns and different terrains,” senior Kyla Becker said. “ This was definitely easier than the last course, which was at Kate Carson, because Kate Carson had a lot of hills.”

The City League Championships took place on Tuesday, November 1st at Morley Field in Balboa Park. This team of runners had to run a little more than three miles while they were being timed.

While competing against multiple schools all over San Diego, Canyon Hills both boys and girls varsity placed second place. The boys varsity averaged out with a score of 44 and girls varsity averaged out with a 54.

The girls competed first, and then the boys followed them. Both JV and varsity teams run together and

then their times are scored at the end, then organized by team. This race could’ve been the last race for seniors in cross country this year.

Becker, a senior on girls varsity, placed 18th place and had a time of twenty-five minutes and four seconds. Kyla Becker described that the race went well and that she did the best she could do.

“This was definitely my best season yet, I feel like the team dynamic was really good and we all got along really well and helped push each other.”

With the season ending, the honors were another indication that many running met with success in 2022.
