As a school, we should consider the results of our choices. When given the freedom, some students brought some of these eggs to crack on their friend’s heads, but it did not stop there. It had reached a week when teachers and staff began to notice how these confetti-filled eggs had been ruining the school. The confetti eggs have gotten out of control at CHHS.

Canyon Hills Junior, Amber Carachure, explains her view on the confetti eggs in the school, “I do think that the students could have not done the confetti eggs at school, but there should have been rules in place since the beginning if they didn’t want that to happen.”
Confetti is littered all over the floor, which can lead to getting into the sewers, disturbing marine life, and harming animals in the oceans because of the chemicals in the confetti. Even animals we see everywhere, such as birds, could be eating the confetti on the ground, and this is deadly to them, as this is not a source of food that they believe it to be.
These eggs have caused potential injuries as well because they are hard shells that get hit on a person’s head, and that could harm a person for sure. Sometimes things get too out of hand, and it’s hard to get things back under control. The teachers have expressed their concern for the outcome of the confetti eggs, it was not supposed to go on this long.
Ashley Martinez, Junior, says, “The teachers say they have a problem with the mess of the eggs, but, i think it wasn’t on purpose they just wanted to have fun with friends.”
Although some students may say it was a harmless activity, that’s not the big picture. Our school is pretty much on the lenient side and makes it fun to attend CHHS, however, when things like this happen, it makes more rules take place. Had it been just one day, I believe it would have been fine. The school is covered in confetti everywhere, and it’s left for the janitors to clean up. It is not fair to our cleaning staff for them to have to clean up an unnecessary mess that should not have taken place in the first place.

“I do feel bad for the janitors having to clean up the mess, i think they should have limited the eggs to a day and not let it get to a whole week long because it resulted in more mess.” explained Carachure, she feels as though the students at CHHS should have been more considerate to the staff.
This had also happened with water balloons. Students would bring water balloons to school and then throw them at their friends, again as another harmless joke, but then the student ends up soaked, and balloons are left on the floor, or left for staff, again, to clean them up. I get it, school is coming to an end and the sun is out so it would seem like something fun to do with friends, but overall, if it is a daily/weekly occasion, then of course the school would need to enforce these rules that had not been needed to be put into place before.
Martinez believes the rules that are being made have had some reason, “Sometimes I do think the school has to make new rules because sometimes things are taken too far. I do understand why the school has been putting them in place.”
Our school has fun activities for students to do throughout the school year, and as of right now, “SOAK-A-SENIOR” will be taking place on May 1, 2025. Here you can nominate a senior you’d like to dump water on and splash them. This is a way of being able to do this to your friends who are seniors, but not causing a bad result. Of course, you have to pay to do this, but the funds do go to senior class events.
To circle back on the main issue, confetti eggs were not a good idea. Hopefully, they won’t be a disturbance again. There are plenty of other ways to enjoy time at school and have fun with friends. But, if you did enjoy the confetti eggs, maybe next time off school grounds would be better.
