Mass deportations are causing fear throughout the U.S. as circumstances intensify.
In the United States, there are Mass Deportations taking place everywhere which is causing mental distress among many as they lose their family members and for the children, they are losing their parents. The ICE has been targeting certain areas where they know the Mexican people are mainly present.
“I have seen that when I go to the stores at night, I see the vans in the parking lots but I’m not sure why they stay there so long.” Falisha Adriana shared.
The people who are now being taken in because of ICE must now decide if they rather give up their lives in the U.S. or seek a lawyer who will protect them from the government coming after them.
Deportations are the government’s way of getting people out of this country and back to where they originated from. But they are doing it in the worst ways possible. As of now, children are being brought into this by also having the children deported alongside their parents or having to attend court to see where the judge will decide where they believe the child goes. Either into foster care or adoption centers.
On February 8, 2025, young Jocelynn Rojo Carranza sadly took her life because of being bullied for being a daughter of immigrant parents. Her classmates on the bus had taunted her over and over because of her family’s immigration status and they had told her she would get deported. Out of fear for her life, she was sadly pressured into taking her own. Children should not be taught that circumstances like these are something to joke about, because, in a serious matter, it can take a wrong turn and cause others to take it more seriously.
Canyon Hills students were asked what their thoughts were on how this is affecting the children- which is not spoken about enough- as well as what their thoughts were on Carranza’s tragic experience.

“I don’t think kids should be brought into the situation, especially if it has to do with their parents, because they will be affected too. It is honestly heartbreaking to hear that a little girl had to go to that extent out of fear.” Amber Carachure, a Canyon Hills student, expressed how she gave insight into what was going through her head when she heard of the situation on the news.
Mexican people are the reason half of the crop and produce jobs in America are done more efficiently, if not better. As of now, produce and merchandise products have doubled or even tripled in price, because now the work is not being done as fast or as efficiently as it was before when the Mexican people would work the fields instead. Now they try to hire Americans to fill those spots but they can’t do the same as the Mexican people because the circumstances are different for where they are from so they take harsher working conditions longer.
Deportations should not be the main concern. With inflation, food stamp revokings, paycheck-to-paycheck households struggling with affordable housing, and many other problems. But somehow deporting people who have not been a problem for a long time is now the biggest issue in America.
According to Canyon Hills student, Falisha Adriana, “I don’t agree with the deportations. I think, like, the majority of people coming here are just looking for a better life, so I think it’s just really unnecessary.” Adriana explained that she does not see why people are being treated this way.

It is not clear why the color of a person’s skin is how a person is perceived. The racial discrimination among many individuals of the brown community is clear and it shouldn’t be that way. We are all people. Since deportations have started skyrocketing, the communities have grown smaller, leaving stores, shopping centers, and farmers’ markets scarce. The amount of people outside has limited to about half of what you’d expect to see on a daily basis.
“I feel like I’ve definitely noticed it. There’s a Mexican supermarket near my house and one time I had gone there, and it was so empty.”, described Adriana, as she expressed her concern for the sudden limitation of people she’s seen lately when she goes out.
“I was shocked to see that too, to be honest!” Carachure exclaimed.
Hopefully, this chapter will come to a close and the lives of others won’t have to be impacted again this way. It is not fair to those who do good. The people who are here and do what they can to be good citizens should not be punished.
