The lip dub video has been a tradition at Canyon Hills High School for many years, dating back to when their name was Serra. The tradition will continue into this year, with the new ASB President, Sarah Chevrette, wanting to make this one better than the rest.
In the years before COVID-19, lip dub videos were extremely popular within the school, with almost everyone dressing up and participating. Ever since Covid, the school spirit has gone down significantly, with fewer people interested in the Lip Dub and not wanting to be in it.
The ASB of the 2024-25 school year, wants to bring more people into the Lip Dub, including different clubs and organizations within the school. In the past couple of years it has only been sports teams and an occasional classroom that wanted to join in, but this year it is more open for more groups of people. Some school organizations that ASB is encouraging to join the video are the Graphic Design Club, the Journalism Class, the Culinary Club, and many other clubs as well.
“We [ASB] are trying to include more clubs and extracurriculars so the video is more representative of the campus as a whole,” Chevrette said.
Not only are more people being added to the video, but they also want to change up the song choices for this video. In recent years, it has only been one song, but this year ASB is changing it up a little.
“This year the video is going to be a mashup of multiple songs,” Chevrette shared.
Chevrette believes that the video will gain more attraction if there are multiple songs. When there is only one song, it can become repetitive, while having a mashup makes the video more enticing and entertaining for the audience and participants.
