The newly released thriller movie, “Companion”, starring Sophie Thatcher explores the possibilities of AI and how technology could advance in the future.
“Companion” was directed by a man named Drew Hancock who is known for “M3GAN” and “Subservience.”
The movie follows a man and his friends as they go on a retreat with his robot girlfriend. This goes terribly wrong, as she does not know that she is a robot and has the capability to feel emotions.

When asking people their thoughts on the movie, I was met with many good things to say about it.
“I liked the music, outfits, cinematography, and the whole vibe,” film lover, Sadie Smith said. “It reminded me of A24 movies, which I love.”
One of my favorite parts about the movie was the humor that was brought into such a dark and heavy topic. When watching a scary movie, it can always benefit to have light-hearted moments to ease the tension.
“As a writing sample, I just wanted it to represent every genre that I like,” director Drew Hancock revealed to Blood Disgusting. “So I kind of threw everything at the wall just to see if it would work.”
Hancock wanted to incorporate his voice into what he was working on, and he knew that adding humor to the movie would make the movie feel more personable and stand out against many other horror movies coming out at the time.
“Companion” also reflects today’s society, which relies heavily on technology. The movie explores the possibilities of what AI could become.
The movie shows that most of society relies on robots for things such as romantic relationships, which is uncommon now but with the route that society is going, this could become a reality.
Overall, the movie “Companion” was fantastic as it explored technology’s relationship with society and added a dark twist to it. As a whole, I would recommend this movie to horror and thriller lovers, with an 8/10 rating.
