MLB The Show has revealed its cover for 2025 and it got 3 athletes, spotlighting the game’s biggest stars, these 3 athletes are 3 of the most electrifying athletes in the game

This is the first year that Sony and San Diego Studios have decided to put more than one athlete on the cover of this game. Last year it was Blue Jays’ star Vladdy Jr. and in 2023 it was now Yankees star, Jazz Chislom Jr. The athletes on this cover are players whose names have been big for at least a couple of years but now they are some of the best players in the league. Two of the best middle infielders in the game and easily a top 10 pitcher in the league, I am talking about Orioles star Gunnar Henderson, Reds star Elly De La Cruz, and Pirates starting pitcher Paul Skenes.
Paul Skenes
He was the most anticipated player to be called up this year, which is kind of crazy to think that he was only drafted in 2023. He was the number one overall pick in the 2023 draft, he came from the LSU Tigers, and if you know anything about the 2023 LSU Tigers, this pick wasn’t a surprise. Skenes finished up his rookie year with an incredible stat line, starting 23 games, with an 11-3 record, an ERA of 1.96, and 170 strikeouts, along with a 0.95 WHIP. On top of that, he took home the NL Rookie of the Year and joined a very small list of pitchers to be named the All-Star starting pitcher as a rookie. This guy is only 22 years old but looks like he has been pitching in the big leagues for a long time. He also consistently throws 100mph+, making it very difficult to hit his stuff with not only the way it moves but with how fast he is throwing. Now knowing all of that, you can’t mean to tell me that he didn’t deserve to be on the cover of The Show.
Elly De La Cruz
One of the most electrifying players in all of baseball. I mean what else can I even say, this name sounds like someone who will go down in MLB history. From his electrifying plays at shortstop to his ARiA (if you know you know) swagger, Elly De La Cruz is one of the funnest players to watch in baseball. He is a switch hitter who has power from both sides, has an incredible amount of speed for someone his size, he’s 6’5”, and has one of the strongest arms in the game. He also became the first shortstop in MLB history got have 25 home runs and 65 stolen bases. Again, he is one of those guys who has been in the league for only 2 years but he is already a household name just like Paul Skenes. He at some point would’ve made it to a cover, but this year makes the most sense if San Diego Studios is not only trying to capture extremely fun players to watch but also make history.
Gunnar Henderson
He is one of the most consistent hitters you will see in the league. He hit .281 last season with 37 home runs, 92 RBIs, an OPS of .892, and also helped the Orioles make it to the Postseason. He was drafted in the second round in 2019, the only reason he wasn’t a first-rounder for the O’s is because they drafted none other than Orioles catching phnom, Adley Rutschman, one of my favorite players in the league. He can play the left side of the infield and play it well. He is primarily a shortstop but he can also play some third, the battery that he and Adley Rutschman have at the catcher-shortstop battery is unmatched. He is known for his monstrous home runs, he set the record at Camden Yards for hitting a 462 ft against the Kansas City Royals in 2023, which was hit onto Eutaw Street, which has never happened in the 31-year history of Camden Yards. He is consistently in the MVP conversation and a player to watch as he develops over the next 5-10 years. I don’t know that he would’ve ever made it onto a cover by himself so the fact that he is on this cover says a lot, especially with the two other athletes on this cover, Henderson is the perfect 3rd addition.
There is still more information to come out about what this year’s release will include but what has been teased so far, this will be the best installment of the game to date.
