On November 21st and 22nd, 8th graders from De Portola and Farb Middle School flooded the Canyon Hills campus hoping to gain inspiration to attend the school. Over one hundred 8th graders walked from their Middle School to Canyon Hills, eager to have an easy and exciting day while gathering insight into their future school. Each event they were presented was carefully planned, accommodating for the size and time of the 8th grade visit.

Each Middle School was scheduled to come in on a different day after 1st period. Still, in an unexpected turn of events, De Portola showed up an hour early along with one hundred Middle Schoolers who were unaccounted for! This caused some setbacks for ASB but they were quick on their feet to solve the problem making the tour run smoothly. Throughout the day, the Middle Schoolers were given the High School experience with new activities every period. When they first entered the campus they were guided into the gym where cheerleaders, STEP, ROTC, and band gave them a thrilling performance. This lasted until the end of 2nd period when ASB escorted them out of the gym in groups and gave them a tour showing all the important pathway buildings and classrooms. While ASB showed the Middle Schoolers each pathway building, they explained the curriculum, letting them think about what class they were interested in. The president of ASB Sarah Chevrette was proud to see all the Middle Schoolers intrigued and excited to be a part of the High School community. Showing her fondness Sarah stated, “It was so great seeing the aspiring rattlers”. The loud ring of the lunch bell ended the tour and High Schoolers simultaneously flooded the hallway, walking to Club Rush while picking which club they wanted to join. This allowed Middle Schoolers to gather information about every club available to them, it also kept them in a contained area to avoid confusion around campus.
Canyon Hills is excited to continue this tradition of introducing Middle Schoolers to our High School making their transition easier. By presenting them with exciting activities, we hope to alleviate any anxious feelings during their transition by replacing them with feelings of accomplishment and excitement. Yet another success for 8th-grade tours this year and it is Canyon Hills’ plans to improve year by year, making the Middle Schoolers’ experience the best we can.
