January of 2025 brought many fires all over San Diego but the most prominent one was the blaze on Otay Mountain. This fire quickly spread all over the San Diego Border devastating wildlife and residential homes in a matter of hours. High wind speeds helped fuel the fire spreading it over 62,265 acres in just one week.
This firefighting effort consisted of 16 engines, three water tenders, two helicopters, and 39 troops on the ground.
The amazing effort given by these firefighters directly translates into the containment of the fire in just one week. The containment of a fire does not mean the fire is put out; rather, firefighters manage to keep it contained in one area where it is very unlikely to spread.
During the containment of the fire, firefighters take turns watching over the fire making sure it doesn’t spread. The fire eventually died down allowing people to come back into their homes safe and sound.
Although the fire was put out firefighters were wary and ready to respond to another emergency.
