Wednesday, October 30th, was Senior Night for the girls’ field hockey team facing off against La Jolla. It was an emotional night for families and friends, saying goodbye to many beloved seniors on the varsity team, and losing such a close game.
Despite losing against La Jolla, the Canyon Hills field hockey team still qualified for CIF. The team is known for being great. They were CIF open division champions in the 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2022 years and were ranked 11th in California and 94th nationally.
Senior Night Game
Starting strong in the first quarter, neither team scored. It was neck and neck between the two teams. Canyon Hills made various attempts at scoring, however La Jolla held their defense up and managed to block all attempts.
By the second quarter, the crowd started getting more enthusiastic. Families cheered loudly, friends in the bleachers cheered for their girls on the team, posters were being held, and everyone was thirsty for someone to score. It’s been a close game, and Canyon Hills gets even closer to a point. Unfortunately for the Rattlers, by the end of the half, the puck was close to entering the goal, only to be outside the scoring zone.
It’s been a tight game, even throughout the third and fourth quarters neither team managed to score, only close attempts and false points. Tension and suspense grew even bigger in the crowd, at this rate it was hard to tell which team would take it all.
Going into overtime, the game was close like never before, still neck and neck. It’s all until La Jolla gets a shootout. A shootout is when an attacker can run the puc in a one-on-one situation against the goalkeeper. La Jolla gets the point that ends the game,
It was time for Seniors to shine, the ceremony to say farewell to the Lady Rattlers was held after the game ended. It was certainly a heartfelt moment. Freshman Eva Allen on the varsity team shared how she felt saying goodbye to her seniors.
“I have never cried that much. It was just so sad because I know that next year they’re going to be gone, and it’s so sad because I’m so close with some of them.”
CIF game
In summary, the wrap of the 24’ season ended in a great game. It was a close match with La Jolla only scoring one point, but the Canyon Hills Rattlers gave it their all and worked hard.
Until the 25’ season.
