As the high school basketball season tips off, the Canyon Hills Rattlers are confident in making this season one to remember. The teams are looking to build on from last year and challenge themselves to make it to playoffs. With high expectations and fierce competition ahead, will they fulfill these goals?
Boys Varsity
The boy’s varsity team has been moving up in California rankings season after season and based on previous seasons, it’s likely that they’ll continue to move up. They went up by 282 in the 2023-2024 season from the 2022-2023 season. They’re currently at four wins and five losses and have had a win streak of two.
Boys Junior Varsity
As for the Junior Varsity team (JV), they’re currently even in wins and losses being 4-4 and recently ended their three-game losing streak at a home game against the Granite Hills Eagles, returning their loss from the last time they went against each other in the 2023-2024 season, going 58-53.
Girls Varsity
The girls are having a successful season, winning their tournament against the Santana Sultans on December 7th 53-36. They have five wins and three losses, ranked #5 in San Diego Division four and ultimately #27 in San Diego. Hopefully, the Lady Rattlers keep up their five-win streak and continue to play with determination.
Girls Junior Varsity
The JV girls for the Canyon Hills basketball team are 2-3 and have an upcoming tournament soon December 18th through the 23rd. Captain Laila White, a Sophomore on the team, shares her experience and thoughts for this season.
“I think I’m doing better than last year, I’ve made a little more shots than last year and my dribbling has gotten better, but as for the team I feel like we have a lot of talent on our team, but a lot of people are new so it’s like we had to start over again because a lot of people from last year went on varsity.”
October Curren, a freshman new to Basketball earned player of the game against Torrey Pines on December 7th. She’s shared her thoughts about the team and if they’ll continue to win more games
“I think so, the girls are very athletic, we just gotta get it together as a group.”
