High School students are reintroducing cooking for fun to Canyon Hills by starting up the Culinary Club for lunch meetings every Wednesday.
Because the previous members had left or had no interest anymore, Junior Hayley Nguyen took it upon herself to get a group and start it back up.
“I formed the club” Nguyen states, “Because I wanted to bring back an old club I was interested in”.
The club leaders came together because they wanted to spread information while also teaching people how to take care of themselves.
Junior Hayden Parras liked the idea, saying, “I like to teach people things and I find cooking really interesting” Parras elaborates their feelings, “I feel like it’ll provide a lot of people with opportunities to sustain themselves, and will also teach them special skills outside of school”.
The recent Club Rush gave the group a boost in reputation and popularity allowing more people to know about the scheduling and an overview of what’s to come.
Juniors Patrick Murphy and Megan Le comment on how they’ve helped promote the club. Le starts by saying, “I made the social media post[s]”, Murphy adds, “I helped make the poster and wrote down information”.
Of course clubs are run best by people who can do what they teach, this also applies to Culinary
When asked about their skills, Nguyen remarks she’s “pretty decent” and Murphy notes, “I cook occasionally, I’ve never really baked”.
The club leaders are eager to help people learn about food and have the opportunity to bring some to school. When they graduate the leaders imagine some other students will carry on the club for everyone.
Parras says they “hope gets passed down to at least some other trustworthy students, and that people will continue teaching others about food” Le adds on, “I imagine the club living on past when I graduate and I imagine the club finding a good group of people to continue the passion for many years to come”
