The final dance of the school year, and the final dance for us graduating seniors, has finally come and gone: senior prom. There were many expectations that had to be met and many mixed predictions for how it could possibly go leading up to that glorious Saturday night. I’m quite picky with school dances, but I think prom was the best dance we had all year.
The theme was fine. There was so much debate over the theme for the months leading up to the dance that I didn’t care for the rock and roll theme in the end. At least it wasn’t Candyland. But I was incredibly happy with the ticket prices for the dance! The starting prices were $55 with an ASB card and $70 without one, with the second week of sales selling tickets at $85. This was infinitely better than the prices we paid for Homecoming and winter formal, and I am glad I didn’t have to pay $90-100 for a ticket like students did last year. Hopefully they keep this for next year’s prom.
The venue was the House of Blues, and while it was kind of cramped, it was a fantastic choice for a school prom. There was plenty of room to dance with friends, even if the music was so loud we couldn’t hear each other. The snacks were also amazing, I really enjoyed the pretzels and the unlimited cups of Pepsi. My biggest issue was the parking situation downtown, but that had nothing to do with the school, so it doesn’t really count.
The DJ was fine. The tracks were mostly trending rap songs, which weren’t my cup of tea, but it was fine. I wish there was a slow-dancing track, though.
Overall, I had a grand time at prom. After a year of disappointment regarding Homecoming and winter formal, I’m glad that our school’s team made up for the last two dances with an amazing prom that the class of 2024 will never forget.
The House of Blues used the performance stage for the DJ’s setup, and all of us students surrounded the stage as the dance floor. The lights were quite bright, but the prom was awesome.
