The MLB City Connect jersey series, you either love them or hate them. They are a series of jerseys each club is going to receive by the end of the 2025 MLB season, and they are used to connect and shine light on the history and culture of teams and the cities they represent. But who is next and do fans really like them?
On February 13th, the MLB released the information that 8 ball clubs would be receiving their City Connect jerseys this year, this list includes, the Guardians, Tigers, Twins, Mets, Phillies, Cardinals, Rays and Blue Jays.
There have already been 20 clubs that have received their part of the series and ESPN has ranked them in order from best to worst, the Rockies are in 1st, and the Orioles are in last. In my opinion, I actually think that the Orioles have some of the better jerseys in this series and the Rockies have some of the worst. I also think that the Angels, Astros, and Mariners have the top 3 jerseys in this series.
Los Angeles Angels
The Angels have many small details that mean a lot to fans such as the sleeve patch which is inspired by the SoCal Railroad Signs, lettering on the jerseys which is inspired by vintage surfboard lettering, the right sleeve stripe which is inspired by vintage surfboard striping, the numbers are inspired the numbering on lifeguard towers, and the diamond around the numbers is inspired by the outlines of vintage surfboard companies.
Houston Astros
The Astros represent the nickname of Houston which is Space City and the chest plate which says “Space City” is to help remind fans that Houston is where Mission Control is located along with the nickname of Houston, the rainbow piping is one-of-a-kind on a jersey, and that is just like the city of Houston, the hat logo which is a modern version of Star H logo that launches a planetary track and gradient from Houston’s iconic 60s and 70s logos into the 21st century and many other things
Seattle Mariners
The Seattle Mariners, my favorite although I am a little biased, are the best ones in the series. They may just say “Seattle” across the front but the amount of small details put into these jerseys are things most Mariners fans know about, such as the PNW patch on the left sleeve which stands for pacific northwest, the lettering on the front which is the same lettering of the Seattle Pilots, the colors which again represent the Seattle Pilots, and the trident on the hat which represents the original trident from the Mariners in 1977, which is when they were founded.
Those are just of my few favorite jerseys in the series, but after this year’s release there will only be two teams that haven’t received their jerseys, which are the Oakland Athletics and the New York Yankees, which I truly think will be the best jerseys in this series. There is so much history in New York and Oakland has so many ideas that they can expand on.
