Tekken 8 is a great new entry for the franchise. It provides updated improvements in terms of; visuals, gameplay, music, and story. One of the things that made Tekken differ from most fighting games is the ability to move on a 3D plane rather than the traditional 2D fighting games.
The mechanics of moving along a 3D arena, provides a lot more depth within its combat system and makes the game more competitive. The combat has improved and you continue to feel the impacts with each hit that lands. There’s also a new heat mechanic, which encourages you to play more offensively rather than constantly defending.
The cast of characters for this game is really stacked. In comparison to Mortal Kombat 1 with 22 characters, Tekken 8 has a whopping 32 playable characters. In the future there will also be new DLC passes to purchase new fighters for the game.
The game is also extremely welcoming to new players of the series. You can simplify the controls, use the practice mode, and use characters that are friendly for newcomers. There’s also a feature that allows you to view the replay of a match and give you tips on what you could’ve done differently to win. It’s a simple but neat way to help improve in the game.
A new customization system was also introduced into the game, allowing you to change the appearance of any character. Online, people have gotten very creative with their costumes and made characters from completely different franchises, which really helped with the games appeal.
There’s also a lot of solo content that you can do without having to play with other people or online. Different game modes provide different styles and different goals while playing.
This game also comes with a new story that is pretty entertaining and well done. The lore and stories for Tekken have always been complicated but in this game, it’s mostly another story that puts both Jin and Kazuya against each other. It’s fun, interesting, as well as filled with lots of action and fights.
Tekken 8’s release is also the start of the downfall for Mortal Kombat 1. Mortal Kombat has had a major lack of content recently and with the release of Tekken 8, it’s led a lot of players from there to seek a new fighting game franchise. Tekken 8 even overshadowed Mortal Kombat with the amount of solo content this game has, fixing its biggest problems.
A new Tekken game is what a lot of people needed at this time, with the fighting game community being extremely dry and barren. It allows for new players like myself, to learn the game’s mechanics and try out different fighting styles. It’s a great new entry to the long-running series and continues to make interesting new tweaks and improvements.
