CHHS Baseball off to a rough start but ready to bounce back
Despite a rough start to their season, Canyon Hills Boys Baseball still maintains that this year’s squad is better than they were.
With this senior heavy team, CHHS baseball has assembled a group of gas throwing pitchers, great defenders, they even have some hot bats. Players on the team believe that they are ready for anything despite starting off the season rough.
“This year’s team is better than any other team I’ve played with at Canyon Hills,” Senior Jason Russell stated. “If we can get into CIF, I’ll be happy with that, if we can go any further then I’m even happier. We have the talent to go far and especially with the pitching this year this team is capable of a lot of good things.”
According to players, a new coaching staff has breathed new life into the team and a newfound confidence that they qualify and even win CIF.
After a 23-0 win against Orange Glen on March 10th, the team has some momentum going into their next few games against Hilltop, Pacific Ridge, Foothills Christian, Clairemont and Castle Park. If they can manage to win all 5 games, they will be 8-4 by the end of next week.
“Even before I was on the team I knew that they had a big problem with the coaching staff in the past,” said Varsity Freshman Second Baseman Ollie Korman. “But as soon as I met the new coaches I knew they would be the piece that this team has been missing. It’s an honor that I have been accepted to play on this very capable squad.”
Senior Captain Brandon Todd is leading the team with a 1.00 ERA, and 9 strikeouts. The Aurora University commit is the ace for this squad and fully taking on his role as one of the team’s captains. Senior Captain Noah Manasan is also taking on his role of being the starting shortstop for this squad. Over his entire high school career, he has hit .367 and has had an on-base percentage of .470.
This year’s squad continues to play through some tough games and hopes that they can make it through to CIF and even further.
